Tourist information

There is a lot to learn when it comes to Manchester tourist information! This is an enormous city with seven districts that are jam-packed and full of excitement. If you understand how the districts are situated, you will be able to get to your destination much faster when using public transportation.

The districts of Manchester form two circles. The inner core consists of East Central, North Central, West Central and University Corridor while the outer circle is made up of North, South and Salford and the Western Districts. The Transport in Greater Manchester (TfGM) coordinates most transportation, sells tickets and provides maps.

In the inner circle, there is little need for public transportation unless weather is undesirable. Nearly all attractions are within walking distance of one another. Throughout Manchester, you will find the Metroshuttle and these buses are free! These routes can be caught in the city's core and will take you nearly anywhere.

If you are looking for tourist information regarding fast transportation, the Metrolink is a mass-transit system that runs two lines every six minutes and stops at all major areas in the city's centre .

Taxis are surprisingly affordable in Manchester, especially compared to other European cities. You can only flag black cabs down; the others have to be booked. You will notice at night, many will have illuminated taxi signs if they are available.

Most areas of Manchester are considered safe as long as you stay away from dark alleys when travelling alone. The city's center is full of clubs and a bustling nightlife so if you're out and about, be prepared to be surrounded by a lot of intoxicated people, typically all harmless but if you do have a problem, you can call 112. You should also be aware that persistent begging and pickpocketing can be a problem in Piccadilly.

The Bureaux de Change and Foreign Exchange is the best place to change your currency into euro but there are plenty of banks, travel agents and hotels that will do this also for a higher rate. ATM machines can be found on practically every corner and there aren't many places that don't take credit cards but you should still have some euro on you for transportation and tipping.

The last thing that you may be wondering about regarding Manchester tourist information is the climate. The city enjoys a temperate maritime climate that is almost always comfortable. It can be grey quite a lot bit it seems to just add to the Gothic charm. Summers rarely see temperatures over 20.3°C and it can get quite cool in the evening while winter stays consistently around 4°C. Even in January, there only an average of nine snow days with not a tremendous amount of accumulation.
