Manchester in the north of England is often regarded as England 's second city. A claim contested by Birmingham! A vibrant community of seven million people live in the Manchester area including students and residents from nearly every country in the world. Manchester is easy to reach direct by plane direct from 165 destinations or just over 2 hours from London by train.

 

Manchester stretches 12 miles, north to south and 4 miles wide. Salford borders Manchester and is a separate city but one that links very closely to Manchester. The total Greater Manchester area consists of 10 boroughs. To the south is Stockport and Trafford, to the west lies Salford and Wigan, to the east are the towns of Oldham and Tameside and to the north Bolton, Rochdale and Bury.

Manchester is home to two football clubs, more theatres than any other city outside London , three universities, two symphony orchestras, museums, art galleries, heritage and a buzz! Manchester is a city that is transforming, a process started after the IRA bomb in 1996.
