Manchester Nightlife

With her famous music scene and fashionable nightclubs, a night out in Manchester really can be something special. To be honest, you’ll be spoiled for choice if your fulcrum of operation is the city centre, as there is so much to do.

Nightclubs like Sankeys and 5th Avenue offer the kind of House, Techno, Drum & Bass, Electro and Trance music that’s sure to get your head energetically nodding and perhaps elicit some spasmodic cavorting on the dance floor. Sankeys is a swanky establishment that has table booking as an option, and e-tickets that you can buy, print out, and have scanned at the door, cutting out any unnecessary queuing. With eclectic décor and various rooms with starkly contrasting themes, they even have an outdoor beach for you to zone out on.

5th Avenue, by contrast, focuses mainly on Manchester’s massive student population; the University of Manchester has a student body of over 40,000; so the drinks are cheaper here than any other nightclub in the city centre, as one might expect. Its prices belie its attractiveness, though, with tubular steel railings on balconies overlooking the pillared bar area and dance floor, lit by a stellar lighting show. The sound system harkens to far more expensive clubs, with its floor-thumping bass levels.

The club might be your ultimate destination, but what about beforehand? Manchester has a broad collection of music venues where you can see the best, brightest, and latest bands in the music industry. The Manchester Apollo, Manchester Evening News Arena, and Manchester Academy being just three of the top notch venues the city has to offer. At the time of writing, next month at the Apollo alone, one can see The Moody Blues, Korn, The Steve Miller Band and The Barenaked Ladies. Not too shabby.

If music ain’t your gig there’s a plethora of bars and restaurants in central Manchester that cater to every possible taste and whim.
