Albert Memorial
Dating from 1897 is the statue of Prince Albert that stands in the middle of Albert Square in front of the Town Hall.
Barton Swing Aqueduct

Bridgewater Hall
A modern concert hall that houses the Hallé Orchestra is best seen at night with its illuminated levels. Tours are arranged when performances are not playing. Lower Mosley Street (0161 907 9000).

Holy Name of Jesus
Built in 1871 the main church on Oxford Street. Oxford Road (0161 273 2435).
Manchester Town Hall
A very grand Victorian building completed in 1877, open at weekends with free entry. The Town Hall extension is linked by bridges over Lloyd Street was opened in 1938. Albert Square (0161 234 5000).
Portico Library and Gallery
Built in 1806 with a Grecian theme and a private reading room with a sweet saucer dome containing some 25,000 volumes of mainly 19th Century fiction, travel and history. 57 Mosley Street (0161 236 6785).
Royal Exchange
Originally used as a cotton exchange and now a theatre and shopping arcade. A theatre in the round has been built inside the exchange and contrasts with the Victorian architecture. St Ann 's Square.
St Ann 's Church
Built in 1709 with an elegant exterior built in sandstone. St Ann 's Square (0161 834 0239).
St Mary's Roman Catholic Church
Founded in 1794 “The Hidden Gem” has an ornate 19 th Century interior and the modern Norman Adam's work the “Stations of the Cross”. Mulberry Street (0161 834 3547).
